(Denver, CO = Wongeol Jeong) The Colorado Rockies have announced a significant roster move today. Infielder Adael Amador has been recalled from Double-A Hartford, while infielder Brendan Rodgers has been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 8, due to a left hamstring strain. Amador, who will be wearing jersey number 1, is set to make his Major League debut.
Amador, currently ranked as the Rockies’ No. 1 prospect and the No. 32 prospect in all of baseball by MLB.com, has been showcasing exceptional talent. Since hitting his first home run of the season on May 21, the 21-year-old has posted an impressive .295/.389/.656 slash line, accumulating an OPS of 1.045. Over the last 15 games, he has recorded one double, seven home runs, 18 RBIs, and seven stolen bases. His power surge has placed him at the top of the Eastern League in home runs and second in RBIs, stolen bases, and total bases (40).
Amador participated in his first Major League Spring Training this year, where he played in 12 games and went 4-for-20 (.200) with one home run, four walks, and four strikeouts. His Minor League career statistics are equally impressive, with 186 walks and 172 strikeouts over 1,286 plate appearances in 277 games. His walk rate (14.5%) and strikeout rate (13.4%) are the best in the Rockies’ farm system since his debut in 2021.
In 2023, the Santiago, D.R. native had a standout season with High-A Spokane, earning the title of Northwest League Top Prospect and a spot on the Northwest League Post-Season All-Star team. He finished the season with a .302/.391/.514 slash line, hitting 14 doubles, three triples, nine home runs, and driving in 35 runs over 54 games.
Originally signed as a non-drafted international free agent on July 2, 2019, Amador was added to the Rockies’ 40-man roster in November 2023 to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.
As Amador steps up to the major leagues, Rockies fans will be eager to see if he can continue his impressive performance and help the team navigate through Rodgers’ absence.
