[MLS] When the Final Whistle Echoed Over the Rockies

Colorado Rapids

(Commerce City = Ella Kim) Tonight on October 18th at 7 PM local time, the Colorado Rapids faced off against LAFC, fighting for a spot in the playoffs. Fans filed into the stands, selling out Dick’s Sporting Goods Park with 18,258 fans in attendance this evening. With a little luck and a lot of drive, the Rapids hoped that this evening would not be the last of the season.

The Rapids were unfortunately reduced to passive throughout the entire first half, with no shots on goal and a shot successfully scored against them. Despite possession and other stats being nearly equal, the team just couldn’t seem to break through.

In the second half, however, the team seemed to take on the challenge. Paxten Aaronson charged into the Rapids not long ago, a fresh face for the team. Tonight he scored his first goal with the team.

After a tied score and rising tension, both teams were fired up. With a few minutes to go, Darren Yapi continued to prove himself reliable to the team by scoring a point that could have been a catalyst to the playoffs. Unfortunately, LAFC scored a tying point, resulting in a draw and officially ending the Rapids season on a draw. Despite the loss, many of the players seem hopeful. After a long period of losing streaks from their past, a younger and extremely passionate team has begun to climb the rankings.

While this season has been truly a rollercoaster for the team, with a few disappointing losses there are promising new players and prospects. As the Rapids fall into a rhythm, we hope to see them rise again next season.
