Colorado Earns Buzzer-Beater Victory Over Salt Lake

(Salt Lake City, UT = Won Jeong) Colorado pulled off a dramatic comeback victory against Salt Lake, securing a 23-22 win in Week 7 of the UFA regular season at Zion Bank Stadium on June 5.
Colorado’s defense proved to be the difference throughout the contest. The visitors recorded 11 blocks, nearly doubling Salt Lake’s total of six, and consistently disrupted the home team’s offensive rhythm.
Colorado also excelled in D-Line conversion opportunities. The team converted 9 of its 12 break chances for an impressive 75 percent conversion rate. Salt Lake, meanwhile, managed to score on just 7 of its 14 opportunities, finishing at 50 percent.
Despite the eventual victory, Colorado spent much of the game trailing by a single point. The team found itself behind 5-4 after the first quarter, 11-10 at halftime, and 15-14 at the end of the third quarter.
The game’s defining moments came in the final seconds of the fourth quarter. With 33 seconds remaining, Colorado held a narrow 22-21 lead. Salt Lake responded with the equalizer with nine seconds left on the clock, tying the game at 22-22 and seemingly forcing overtime.
However, Colorado had one final answer.
On the last possession of the game, Colorado scored the game-winning point as time expired, sealing a dramatic buzzer-beater victory and sending the visitors home with a thrilling one-point win.
Colorado’s victory was particularly significant given the team’s early-season struggles. Built largely around young players from the college ranks, the team endured a difficult start to the season. However, under the leadership of new O-Line coordinator Joe and D-Line coordinator TK, Colorado has continued to develop and show improvement, with that progress on full display against Salt Lake.
Colorado will continue its road trip on June 6 when it travels to Fremont High School to face Oakland.
