Lindsey Heaps Joins Denver Summit FC, Cleared for NWSL Play This Weekend

(Denver, CO = Won Jeong) Colorado native Lindsey Heaps is officially rostered with Denver Summit FC and eligible to play in the NWSL starting this weekend, marking her return to American professional soccer after five successful seasons in France.

DENVER, Colo. — Lindsey Heaps, a standout midfielder from Colorado, has officially joined Denver Summit FC and is cleared to compete in National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) matches beginning this weekend. The move comes as the international transfer window opened on July 14, allowing Heaps to return to her hometown club and excite local fans.

Heaps spent the last five seasons with OL Lyonnes in France’s Première Ligue, where she won 10 major titles, including the prestigious 2022 UEFA Women’s Champions League. Denver Summit FC head coach Nick Cushing expressed enthusiasm about the signing, saying, “We are thrilled to officially welcome Lindsey home to Colorado. Her return to the NWSL is a huge moment for our club, our supporters, and the Colorado soccer community. Lindsey’s world-class talent and leadership will have an immediate impact on and off the field. We can’t wait to see her wear our crest and take the pitch.”

Before her stint in France, Heaps played six seasons with Portland Thorns FC from 2016 to 2022. During that time, she appeared in 105 games, earned the NWSL MVP award in 2018, and helped lead the Thorns to two NWSL Shields in 2016 and 2021. She also scored the championship-winning goal in the 2017 NWSL final, finishing her Portland career with 31 goals across all competitions.

On the international stage, Heaps has been a key figure for the U.S. Women’s National Team since her debut in 2013. Over 14 seasons, she has earned 178 caps and has served as team captain since 2023. Her leadership contributed to the USWNT’s 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup victory, a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Denver Summit FC, owned by Rob Cohen and a group of local and national investors, aims to build the best professional women’s soccer club in the world while engaging Denver’s diverse communities. Heaps’ arrival is expected to boost the club’s competitive edge and inspire fans across Colorado.

As Lindsey Heaps dons the Denver Summit FC jersey for the first time, all eyes will be on how the hometown star elevates the team’s performance and helps shape the future of women’s soccer in the region.
