[MLB] Rockies Fight Back but Fall 10-8 to Padres

Colorado Rockies / Moniak

(Denver= Ella Kim) This evening at Coors Field on September 6th the Rockies faced the Padres. Having been dominated several times by the Padres in the last series and fresh off a win, the Rockies leapt into game 2 of 3 with high hopes of securing the series.

After Kyle Freeland’s excellent display and 8 inning shutout yesterday, all eyes turned to today’s starting pitcher with high expectations. Rookie McCade Brown unfortunately had a short lived rough patch, allowing 6 runs to score and tapping out after just over one inning, leaving the rest of the game in the hands of the bullpen.

On the other side of the game today, the Rockies offense rose to the occasion. Many fans have pointed out that the charm of this team is their drive and resilience. Even if they’re out of the count for the post season, even if they’re down for the count, these players fight for every victory big or small. They certainly displayed those characteristics today. In the bottom of the second, down 0-6 the Rockies started to push back despite the odds. Center Fielder Brenton Doyle doubled to right field, scoring Jordan Beck. Warming Bernabel then singled to score Brenton Doyle, leaving the score at 6-2.

San Diego retaliated in the fifth inning to score 4 more, widening their lead to 10-2. Not to be outdone, however the Rockies started climbing their way back to the top. In the bottom of the 6th, 2025 All Star player Hunter Goodman hit a homerun, bringing the score to 10-3. In the bottom of the 7th, designated hitter Mickey Moniak singled to score Bernabel, bringing the score to 10-4. Jordan Beck backed it up with a three run homer, scoring Tyler Freeman and Mickey Moniak, catching up with the score now 10-7.  Finally, there was a rally even to the very last inning at the bottom of the ninth, with a homerun from Moniak. Unfortunately the rally fell just shy and the score ended as 10-8 in favor of the Padres.

Yesterday, the Rockies soared ahead. Tonight the Rockies fell just shy of another victory. Tomorrow in game 3 of 3, the Rockies are surely going to battle to win the series against the Padres for a full circle of revenge as the 2025 season starts to come to a close for the team this year.
