[Art] teamLab Borderless in Tokyo Named One of TIME’s World’s Greatest Places of 2024

(Tokyo, Japan = David Jeong) The acclaimed teamLab Borderless: MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM at Azabudai Hills has been honored as one of TIME Magazine’s World’s Greatest Places of 2024, placing it among 100 extraordinary destinations around the globe.
Since its launch in 2018, TIME’s annual list has spotlighted destinations that offer innovative, inspiring, and unforgettable experiences. This year, the immersive digital art museum joins landmarks such as Switzerland and Italy’s Matterhorn Alpine Crossing and Abu Dhabi’s Abrahamic Family House.
TIME praised teamLab Borderless for redefining digital art, writing: “teamLab Borderless puts an atmospheric twist on a genre that’s become a social media cliché.” Among the installations highlighted was “Universe of Water Particles on a Rock where People Gather,” where a simulated waterfall dynamically shifts based on visitors’ movements. Another standout is “Bubble Universe / Microcosmoses,” an ethereal work featuring glowing spheres of light that respond to human presence, creating endlessly unique ripple effects.
In June 2024, teamLab expanded its reach with the opening of teamLab Borderless Jeddah in Saudi Arabia’s historic district of Jeddah, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The new venue builds on the concept of “art without boundaries,” offering visitors a seamless journey through interconnected, ever-changing digital worlds.
With its Tokyo museum now recognized as one of the world’s premier cultural attractions, teamLab Borderless continues to captivate audiences worldwide with its blend of technology, creativity, and human interaction.
