[MLB] Rockies Fall 3-0 Despite Strong Outing from Márquez

(Denver = Won Jeong) The Colorado Rockies played the second game of their final home three-game series against the LA Angels.
On September 20 (local time), at Coors Field in Colorado, the Rockies fell to the Angels 3-0 in a Major League Baseball regular season matchup.
Starting pitcher Germán Márquez began sharply for Colorado, striking out the Angels’ leadoff hitter Nolan Schanuel on three pitches.
However, in the top of the second inning, Márquez surrendered a solo home run to Taylor Ward. On the sixth pitch of the at-bat, his knuckle curve drifted over the inside part of the plate, giving the Angels a 1-0 lead.
The Angels extended their lead in the sixth inning when Nolan Schanuel connected for another solo home run, making it 2-0. Schanuel launched Márquez’s second pitch, a high inside fastball, over the fence. Unshaken, Márquez struck out Mike Trout on three pitches to end the inning.
Márquez finished with a strong performance: seven innings, four hits, and two earned runs.
Reliever Hill took over next but immediately allowed a home run to Trout. The 485-foot blast marked the 400th home run of Trout’s career, coming off a slightly elevated sinker.
Hill then hit back-to-back batters but escaped further damage by retiring Jo Adell on three pitches.
Offensively, the Rockies’ best early chance came in the bottom of the second inning. Leadoff hitter Jordan Beck singled, and Ezequiel Tovar advanced him to second with a sacrifice bunt. However, Brenton Doyle’s fly ball resulted in a double play, ending the threat.
In the ninth inning, Chivilli pitched a scoreless frame to keep the Rockies within reach.
In the bottom half, Mickey Moniak reached on a fortunate hit. Hunter Goodman followed with a single to shallow center, putting runners at first and third. Rookie Blaine Crim then drew a walk to load the bases with one out.
But Beck was retired on a fly out, sealing the 3-0 victory for the Angels.
The Rockies will face the Angels tomorrow in their final home game of the season.
