[MLB] Rockies Drop Tight 2-1 Decision to Phillies as Luzardo Dominates

(Denver = Won Jeong) The Colorado Rockies were unable to capitalize on key scoring opportunities and fell 2-1 to the Philadelphia Phillies on April 4 at Coors Field.
With the loss, the Rockies dropped to 2-6 on the season, remaining at the bottom of the NL West standings.
Philadelphia struck early in the top of the first inning. After Trea Turner worked a leadoff walk, Kyle Schwarber lined an RBI double to left field to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.
Colorado responded in the third inning. Troy Johnston singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch by Jesús Luzardo before Kyle Karros moved him to third with a flyout. Brett Sullivan then delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.
The decisive moment came in the fifth inning. Brandon Marsh reached on a single, and J.T. Realmuto followed with a walk. With one out and runners on the corners, Turner delivered again, driving an RBI double to left field to score Marsh and put Philadelphia ahead 2-1.
The Rockies had chances to respond but were unable to deliver in crucial moments. Their best opportunity came in the eighth inning when Sullivan singled and was replaced by pinch-runner Jake McCarthy, who advanced to second on a wild pitch. However, Colorado failed to bring him home, as Mickey Moniak grounded out and Hunter Goodman flied out to end the threat.
Colorado’s offense struggled throughout the game, managing just six hits while striking out 13 times. The lack of timely hitting proved costly in a tightly contested matchup.
Luzardo was dominant on the mound for Philadelphia, allowing one run over 6.2 innings while striking out 11 to earn his first win of the season.
Rockies starter Chase Dollander delivered a solid outing, allowing one run over 4.1 innings, but was charged with the loss due to limited run support.
The game also featured multiple challenges under the automated ball-strike (ABS) system, reflecting ongoing changes in Major League Baseball’s officiating process.
Despite a strong effort from the pitching staff, the Rockies continue to struggle offensively early in the season.
