(Denver = Won Jeong) The Colorado Rockies captured their first home victory of the season with a convincing 4–1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

On April 5 (local time), Colorado delivered a complete performance in the third game of the home series against Philadelphia at Coors Field.

After suffering back-to-back losses in the first two games — including a 10–1 defeat in the home opener and a narrow 2–1 loss in Game 2 — the Rockies entered the matchup determined to avoid a series sweep and salvage at least one win on their home turf.

Taking the mound for Colorado was Japanese right-hander Sugano, who began his Major League career with Baltimore last year and was the 2025 NPB Central League MVP. Sugano turned in an impressive outing, allowing just one run over six innings while giving up four hits and one walk.

Sugano effectively neutralized the Phillies’ lineup by mixing his arsenal — including a sweeper, splitter, fastball, and curveball — while varying his velocity from the upper 70s to the low 90s.

Philadelphia countered with right-hander Walker, who struggled throughout his five innings of work, allowing four runs. Walker was particularly vulnerable in the first and fifth innings, surrendering solo home runs to Moniak in both frames. He exited the game after throwing 87 pitches, handing the ball over to left-hander Mayza.

Colorado struck early in the bottom of the first inning when Moniak launched a solo home run over the right-field wall, capitalizing on an inside fastball to give the Rockies a 1–0 lead.

Moments later, Goodman followed with a clean base hit up the middle, setting the tone for Colorado’s offensive surge.

Rumfield added to the momentum with a two-run home run, lifting a low inside cutter and driving it off the upper part of the right-field wall. The blast extended Colorado’s lead to 3–0, giving the team early control of the game.

After Sugano’s six-inning effort, Colorado’s bullpen took over. Hill handled the seventh inning efficiently, allowing just one baserunner due to a defensive error and completing the frame with only 10 pitches.

Bernardino took the mound in the eighth inning, maintaining the Rockies’ lead.

In the ninth, closer Vodnik sealed the victory. Entering the game with strong recent form, Vodnik continued his scoreless streak. He struck out Stott with a 93 mph inside cutter after allowing a single to Bohm, and despite allowing runners to reach base, he worked out of trouble.

With two outs, Vodnik faced Marchán and induced a swinging strikeout with a low outside changeup, closing out the game.

Sugano earned the win, while Vodnik recorded the save.

With the victory, Colorado avoids a home sweep and will now host Houston for a three-game series beginning tomorrow.
