Colorado Avalanche vs Dallas Stars

(DENVER, Colo. = Won Jeong) The Colorado Avalanche announced Thursday that forward Martin Necas has signed an eight-year contract extension through the 2033-34 NHL season, solidifying his place as a cornerstone of the franchise’s future.

Necas, 26, is off to a blazing start in his first full season with Colorado, recording 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists) in 11 games. The Czech-born forward ranks among team leaders in nearly every offensive category, including second in goals and third in total points. His campaign began with an eight-game point streak, the longest opening run of his career.

A Rising Star in Avalanche Colors

Since being acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes in a January 2025 trade, Necas has quickly established himself as a key offensive weapon for the Avalanche. In just 41 regular-season games with Colorado, he’s tallied 41 points (18g/23a) and added five points in seven playoff games. He became the fastest player in Avalanche history to reach 40 points since the team’s relocation to Denver, achieving the mark in just 38 games.

Last season, split between Carolina and Colorado, Necas posted career highs in points (83), assists (56), and power-play points (37) — the latter tied for third-best in the NHL. His balanced scoring and playmaking have made him one of the league’s most versatile forwards.

Career Highlights and Achievements

Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 195 pounds, Necas has totaled 339 career points (131g/208a) across 452 NHL games. Since becoming a full-time NHL player in 2019-20, he’s delivered three 20-plus goal seasons and two campaigns surpassing 70 points, proving his consistency as a top-line contributor.

In 2024, Necas earned the NHL’s First Star of the Month for November, leading all skaters with 22 points (7g/15a) in 15 games while extending a career-best 13-game point streak. That same year, he recorded several milestones, including his 100th NHL goal, 200th career assist, and 300th career point.

International Pedigree

On the international stage, Necas continues to shine for his home country, Czechia. He helped lead the national team to gold at the 2024 IIHF World Championship, the country’s first title since 2010, and has been named to Czechia’s preliminary roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, Italy.

Before his NHL rise, Necas was a standout in junior competition, representing Czechia at multiple World Junior Championships and the IIHF U-18 World Championship, where he consistently ranked among the top scorers.

A Bright Future in the Mile High City

By securing Necas through the next decade, the Avalanche ensure that one of the NHL’s most dynamic and intelligent forwards will remain in Denver for years to come. With elite skating, power-play precision, and playoff experience, Necas is poised to be a vital part of Colorado’s championship ambitions.

“Martin has quickly become an integral part of our lineup,” said an Avalanche team spokesperson. “His work ethic, leadership, and consistency fit perfectly into what we’re building here in Colorado.”

As the 2025-26 season continues, one thing is clear: the future in the Mile High City looks brighter than ever — and Martin Necas is leading the charge.
