[MLB] Rockies Split Doubleheader with Dominant Pitching Performances

(Scottsdale, AZ = Won Jeong) The Colorado Rockies played a doubleheader on Tuesday, splitting the games with a tie against the Cleveland Guardians and a loss to the Seattle Mariners.
Rockies Tie Guardians 8-8 in First Game
The Rockies and Guardians battled to a tie in the first game of the doubleheader. Despite not securing a win, Colorado continued their offensive surge, pounding out 11 hits and raising their team batting average to .285, second-best in all of Major League Baseball Spring Training.
Right-hander Dakota Hudson had a strong outing for the Rockies, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings and striking out six batters. Hudson has now posted a 3.60 ERA in his four Cactus League starts.
Charlie Blackmon got the party started for the Rockies with his first home run of the spring, a solo shot in the fourth inning. He finished the game 3-for-3, raising his average to a sizzling .364. Ryan McMahon and Brendan Rodgers also had strong offensive performances, with McMahon collecting his fourth multi-hit game of the spring and Rodgers extending his hitting streak to seven games.
The Rockies bullpen also impressed, with Jalen Beeks, Geoff Hartlieb, Dugan Darnell, and PJ Poulin each tossing scoreless innings.
Seattle Cruises Past Rockies 12-3 in Second Game
The second game of the doubleheader wasn’t as kind to the Rockies, as they fell to the Seattle Mariners by a score of 12-3. Starting pitcher Austin Gomber took the loss for Colorado, dropping his record to 0-2 in Spring Training.
Despite the loss, several young Rockies continued to impress. Shortstop Ezequiel Tovar improved his batting average to .324 and has now doubled in three consecutive games. First baseman Elehuris Montero snapped a five-game hitless streak and is now hitting .267 with three home runs this spring. Outfielder Nolan Jones also continued his hot streak, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Right-hander Matt Carasiti continued his scoreless streak on the mound, striking out one batter in a scoreless inning pitched.
The Rockies will look to bounce back tomorrow as they continue their Spring Training schedule.
