(Chicago = Won Jeong) – In anticipation of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, U.S. Men’s Olympic Soccer Team head coach Marko Mitrović has unveiled his squad of 22 players who will be attending training camp in Spain and France. The team is set to clash against Guinea on March 22 in Olot, Spain, followed by a match against France on March 25 in Montbeliard. Both games will be streamed live on U.S. Soccer digital platforms, providing fans with an opportunity to witness the young American talent in action.
This marks a significant moment for U.S. soccer, as the Men’s Olympic Team makes its return to the Olympics for the first time since 2008. Comprising players under the age of 23, with an allowance for three overage players, this squad represents a crucial component of the Federation’s endeavor to nurture winning teams and offer promising young talents the chance to compete on the global stage.
Among the 22 players called up, 15 have already been capped by the U.S. Men’s National Team, highlighting their experience at the international level. Midfielder Gianluca Busio leads the pack with 13 senior international appearances. Notably, eight players earned their senior international debuts during the USMNT’s January training camp, showcasing the team’s commitment to developing emerging talent.
The squad, with a diverse mix of players hailing from various clubs across the globe, includes:
- Goalkeepers: Patrick Schulte and Gabriel Slonina
- Defenders: George Campbell, Maximilian Dietz, Nathan Harriel, Bryan Reynolds, John Tolkin, Jonathan Tomkinson, and Caleb Wiley
- Midfielders: Paxten Aaronson, Gianluca Busio, Daniel Edelman, Jack McGlynn, Aidan Morris, and Tanner Tessmann
- Forwards: Esmir Bajraktarevic, Cade Cowell, Johan Gomez, Diego Luna, Duncan McGuire, Kevin Paredes, and Griffin Yow
Mitrović has carefully selected players born between 2001 and 2005, with forward Esmir Bajraktarevic also being eligible for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Notably, ten players have been consistent fixtures in all three Men’s Olympic Team training camps during this cycle, demonstrating their dedication and reliability.
The squad boasts representation from 17 different clubs, including eight from Major League Soccer (MLS). With the MLS season already underway, several players have made notable contributions for their respective clubs. For instance, Duncan McGuire has showcased his prowess with three goals in his first six games, while goalkeeper Patrick Schulte has kept two clean sheets in his initial five appearances across both domestic and continental competitions.
As anticipation builds for the Paris Olympics, the U.S. Men’s Olympic Soccer Team is primed to showcase their talent and determination on the global stage, with eyes set on Olympic glory.
