(Denver = Ella S. Kim) Colorado Rockies’ ace, Germán Márquez, has made his return.

This evening, the Rockies faced the Athletics in game two at Coors Field, on April 5th at 6:10 PM MST. Márquez started on the mound for the game.

Márquez had been benched for the entire 2024 season after suddenly suffering a mysterious right elbow injury in the middle of the 2023 season.

He finally made his return as the starting pitcher for the second game of the 2025 season’s home opener.

After a last-minute loss yesterday, the Rockies came into today’s game determined to take it back.

Márquez made a strong comeback on the mound, delivering a solid 2.45 ERA over the first five innings.

The Rockies’ momentum picked up early as McMahon, Farmer, and Toglia executed a triple play, while the offense rounded out the bottom of the second inning with a homer from Bouchard that also brought Freeman home. Though their performance declined in the second half of the game, the Rockies still showcased many impressive plays on the field today.

In total, Márquez allowed only two runs over five innings, throwing 89 pitches. Against the Athletics, he recorded six groundouts and two flyouts, displaying the poise of a true ace.

However, the six walks he issued suggested he may still need time to fully regain his condition after the long injury layoff.

Later in the game, Alexander took the mound and gave up a double to Jacob Wilson, allowing two runs. The game began to tilt in the Athletics’ favor, shifting the score from 3-2 to 4-3.

In the seventh inning, Brent Rooker hit a solo home run. Then, Shea Langeliers followed with another hit that allowed two more runs, widening the score to 7-3.

In the bottom of the eighth, Ryan McMahon targeted an outside fastball from Ferguson and sent a solo home run over the left field wall, narrowing the score to 7-4. However, the Rockies’ bats fell silent afterward, and they handed over the second home opener game to the Athletics with a final score of 7-4.

On April 6th, the Rockies plan to start right-hander Dollander in pursuit of a win.
