[NHL] Avs Fall in OT Thriller to Rangers, MacKinnon Extends Point Streak

(New York, NY = Won Jeong) – The Colorado Avalanche saw their four-game win streak snapped on Monday night, falling to the New York Rangers 2-1 in overtime at Madison Square Garden. Despite the loss, the Avs remain atop the Central Division and boast an impressive 11-3-1 record in their last 15 games.
Nathan MacKinnon continued his dominance on the ice, extending his league-leading point streak to 14 games with a goal. This marks his fifth stretch of at least 14 games with points this season, a first in franchise history. His 85 points (32g/53a) also tie him for the league lead and represent the most by an Avalanche/Nordiques player through 50 games.
Cale Makar chipped in an assist, furthering his point streak to seven games, the longest active streak by any defenseman in the NHL. This ties him for his second-longest streak of the season and sets him one game shy of his personal record.
The turning point came in overtime, as Alexis Lafreniere capitalized on a Rangers opportunity to secure the victory. Alexandar Georgiev, facing his former team, stopped 27 of 29 shots in the losing effort.
Despite the defeat, the Avs have plenty to be positive about. They’ll look to bounce back tomorrow night against the New Jersey Devils and continue their strong run in the Western Conference.
